Los Angeles: Actor Annie Gonzalez is set to feature in Vanessa Guillen's biopic and will also produce it.
Gonzalez will essay the role of Mayra Guillen, the slain US Army Specialist’s older sister, who has also signed on to the project as an executive producer, according to the entertainment news outlet Deadline.
The details of the plot of the untitled film and the director haven't been announced by the makers. It is produced by Jolene Rodriguez and Jorge Xolalpa under Mighty Aphrodite Pictures.
The film will chronicle the life of the Army recruit, whose 2020 disappearance and murder at Fort Hood in Texas resulted in a nationwide outcry and calls for reform within the US military.
Guillen was assigned to Fort Hood, where she was sexually harassed by a superior. She didn't report it officially as she feared retaliation. She was killed by a soldier, Aaron David Robins, after being reported missing for months. When law enforcement tried to apprehend him, he fatally shot himself.
The film is produced by Rodriguez, Xolalpa and Gonzalez. Guillen, Natalie Khawam and Alejandra serve as executive producers on the film.
Gonzalez is known for her roles in projects such as the comedy-drama series ‘Gentefied’ and the film ‘Flamin' Hot’, among others.
